Spring Flowers (and Allergies)
We have had a Beautiful spring here in Northeast Ohio. Temperatures have been in the 60s-70s already, and plenty of rain for all the flora to come back to life. And it has done just that! Despite a late frost (or almost frost in some locations) trees, grasses, flowers, and early crops are coming on strong sending an exciting message of beautiful weather and delicious crops for this spring and summer season.
As pretty as all the new growth is to look at, walking among it all and breathing it all in can be a challenge for some. This year seasonal allergens such as pollen, fresh growth, fresh cut grass, etc. have been effecting people more so than usual. Even those that normally don’t experience seasonal allergies are having issues.
With all the pollen in the air, some people experience trouble breathing, itchy or watery eyes, sinus pressure and headaches, and other cold like symptoms. So what can you do to alleviate these symptoms and still enjoy the outside? There are many prescription or over the counter allergy pills that will help with severe allergies. For a slight intolerance, a more natural approach may work! Quercetin is a natural remedy for seasonal allergies. Used over time, Quercetin can help improve your immune system and build up a tolerance against allergens. Local honey is a great (and tasty) way to also build up your immune system and build up a tolerance to local pollen. An overall healthy immune system helps fight off…well everything! including reactions to seasonal allergens. Apple Cider Vinegar helps to alkaline the body, allowing it to fight off disease and allergens better as well.
Don’t be afraid to get outside and enjoy the beautiful spring weather! With some precautionary measures you can alleviate some of the negative effects of spring and seasonal allergies. Keep an eye on the weather as well. You can check for the current pollen count for your area, also avoiding the outside on very windy, wet days will help too. That’s when pollen and allergens will be the hardest to avoid.
