If you’ve read our previous post on the amazing benefits of bone broth then you know why it’s all the rave! If you haven’t read that post, then we highly recommend you check it out!
Now that you know the magic that bone broth holds, you probably want to get your hands on some! You can buy bone broth in most natural food stores or you can make it at home. Making bone broth at home is very easy. Most of the time you already have what you need to make it.
Here is what you will need for your broth:
-About 2 lbs of Bones (from any healthy animal, chicken, turkey, beef or pork. A whole Chicken or turkey carcass works great)
-Enough Water to cover the bones
-2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar (this is a very important ingredient. The vinegar helps pull the nutrients from the bones, making the broth beneficial)
-1 Onion
-1/2 Bunch of Celery
-2-3 Carrots
-Optional: Herbs and Spices for added flavor
Instructions:
In a large Stainless Steel Pot or large Crock Pot, add bones, enough water to cover bones and apple cider vinegar. Allow the bones to soak in this mixture for 1 hour. This pulls the minerals and gelatin from the bones and into the broth. After 1 hour of soaking, add your veggies and any herbs and spices you choose. Bring to a boil, then reduce to medium-low heat and simmer for 8 to 24 hours. when your broth is all done simmering, allow it to cool to room temperature before using a fine mesh strainer to separate the bones, veggies, and any particles from the broth. fresh bone broth lasts for about 3-4 days in the refrigerator and up to a year in the freezer.
